International Conference
(AGBELEKAWE 2010)
On
The Challenges of Open/Distance
Learning in the Developing World
Date: 5th – 7th September, 2010 – Pre-ConferenceWorkshop
7TH – 11TH September, 2010 – Conference
It is an obvious fact that that the conventional mode of education alone appears incapable of eradicating mass illiteracy in Africa and indeed all other developing nations. Thus, other avenues through which illiteracy could be eradicated in accordance with the United Nations’ declaration in this regard could include affordable quality open/distance education for all. However, this initiative calls for continuous evaluation of this mode of education for quality assurance and control to attain the desired goal of the ODL by endeavouring to address the attendant challenges and peculiarities of the programme in African countries and other developing counties of the world.
It is against this background that University of Ibadan, Distance Learning Centre is organising an International Conference which aims at:
capacity building of both teaching and non-teaching staff of Open/Distance education Centres in developing nations;
providing varieties of opportunities for interaction and net-working among researchers, practitioners as well as policy makers at the level of distance learning;
evaluate the various reform initiatives in distance education vis-a-vis sustainable development in Africa and around the world;
compare notes on how to ensure quality provision of education on sustainable development in the African economies;
critique strategies adopted/adapted by African Distance Learning Centres,
